Thousands marched Saturday in cities across France to protest the COVID-19 health pass that is now required to access restaurants and cafes, cultural venues, sports arenas and long-distance travel.

For a sixth straight Saturday, opponents denounced what they see as a restriction of their freedom. Many criticized the measure, claiming the French government was implicitly making vaccines obligatory.

In Paris, four demonstrations were organized by different groups and over 200 protests were taking place elsewhere in French cities and towns. Last week more than 200,000 marchers turned out.

The pass shows that people are fully vaccinated, have had a recent negative test or proof of a recent COVID-19 recovery. The law authorizing it also made vaccinations mandatory for French health workers by Sept. 15.

Despite the protests, polls have shown that the majority of French people support the health pass. Millions have received their first vaccine shot since French President Emmanuel Macron announced the measure on July 12.

Majority support? I seriously doubt that and besides it makes no difference because it’s fascism anyway. The French should be well aware of that political horror.

Jean

I do confirm that they don’t care.
I contacted several friends, they are not concerned at all with the forth coming technocratic horrors. Pure sheeps.
I personaly protest on roundabouts.
There are no people younger than 30 years old.
However – a good weak signal – the Police hailed my sign “TECHNOCRATIE TOTALITAIRE”.

Elle

I like your sign too!

It is an AP story. Spin spin spin. Once tyranny hits a person’s doorstep, they change their minds fast and join the resistance. Australian truckers are also protesting. Do the tyrants need the truckers? You bet they do. It’s time to hit them peacefully where it hurts.

Elle

Yes, let’s see. No technocratic criminal jerk is willing to spend their lives traversing the Never-Never in a 18-wheeler.

I’m wondering if it’s true or not. I have family there who chose to get vaccinated and he quoted the media word for word. I should have quoted the Nazi handbook back to him, but I didn’t.

Same here. I won’t miss them. They were never any company to me. I leaved them in the UK back in 2006 and have lived here in Bulgaria ever since.

Elle

How is it, really, in Bulgaria? I’m interested.

Elle

Amazing. And France knows what fascism really is. Apparently, they don’t remember and the youth have not been taught.

“Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”

— Frederick Douglass
